It’s the time to hit pause and reflect. Music bud and Seattle radio stalwart Andrew Lench aka DJ Slow joins me for a very special episode in which we offer up a custom End of Year sonic meditation, press rewind on some of Slow’s favs from the year, and reflect on the art of listening in uncertain times.
Since one podcast episode isn’t nearly enough to contain all the great music that came out in 2021, I helped Andrew curate a special end of year mix for his Slow Music Meltdown radio show. Tune in tomorrow, Dec 27, at 7pm PST on Hollow Earth Radio (104.9FM Seattle) as Slow melts it all down into a flavorful sonic gumbo in DJ Slow x Sound Machine Best of 2021.
Late contender for favorite album of the year might be Hayden Pedigo’s Letting Go. Very chill John Fahey/Jack Rose style instrumental acoustic guitar with pedal steel flourishes and that big-sky sense of longing that befits this Amarillo, TX native. Great for your end of year chill state especially if you’re down in the Lone Star State like me.
I know the monotheistic holiday celebrations are behind us but I also don’t think Lou and John give a damn. Thanks to everyone who read and listened to Sound Machine this year, it’s been extremely rewarding to kick off this newsletter and podcast and get all the good vibes and appreciative comments from all y’all. Here’s to high hopes for the year to come.
